Fearless Quotes

"What are fears but voices airy? Whispering harm where harm is not. And deluding the unwary
Till the fatal bolt is shot!"
Wordsworth

"All of us are born with a set of instinctive fears--of falling, of the dark, of lobsters, of falling on lobsters in the dark, or speaking before a Rotary Club, and of the words "Some Assembly Required."
Dave Barry

"Anything I've ever done that ultimately was worthwhile initially scared me to death."
Betty Bender

"Many of our fears are tissue paper thin, and a single courageous step would carry us through them."
Brendan Francis

Welcome to the September issue of The Joy of Fear!

I'm starting the month off on a somewhat scary note. I was recently laid-off from my job of over ten years, as the result of a corporate merger and re-organization. Even though the severance is generous, and I have a safety net, the thought of taking the leap of going into business for myself as a Life Coach is just a little scary!

It looks like the universe agrees with the idea, though! I'm scheduled to present a workshop at The Learning Annex in New York City in November. If any of you would like to be part of a "dress rehearsal" teleclass at the end of September, e-mail me, and I'll keep you posted!

I'm also offering complimentary (i.e., FREE) sample half-hour coaching sessions. If you're interested in finding out what coaching is, and how it can benefit you, just send me an e-mail, and I'd be happy to schedule an introductory session with you! While I'd love for you to be so thrilled that you can't wait to hire me at the end of the session, there's no obligation to do so.

Feature Articles

How I Conquered the Mountain
Had I not framed my fear into the context of a minute and a half, I would have missed out on two really incredible experiences, and the resulting empowerment.

Fed Up?
How many of you are fed up? If you want to do something, but you're letting fear hold you back, conquer it!

How Much Joy Can You Stand : A Creative Guide to Facing Your Fears and Making Your Dreams Come True - Suzanne Falter-Barns
This book may look small, but it packs a wallop for everyone who's having trouble starting - whether it be starting "the great American novel", a painting, new business or screenplay. It's not necessarily a matter of having talent, it's all about having the passion to follow our dreams. She also shows us how "failures" actually help us in the creative process.
